HomeToGo - Collecting Traveller Payments

This article describes what solutions are in place for accommodation partners to collect traveller payments.

With HomeToGo, property managers have 3 different options to select for managing traveller payments for HomeToGo reservations, we will rank the options from best option to worst option.

Join HomeToGo Payments

The best option is to join HomeToGo Payments product. With this option you enable the opportunity for HomeToGo’s travellers to pay with alternative payment methods, and you eliminate the risk of fraudulent payments and/or insufficiently funded credit cards. Moreover the cancellation rate is really low.

The number behind Alternative Payment Methods

44.5% of e-commerce bought is using digital + mobile wallets.

Europe showcases the highest growth in digital wallets, 26,4% vs. last year.

Payments in Session

In here the property manager uses the payment-in session product from NextPax to accept traveller credit card details. To use this product it requires the following pre-requisites:

  • The accommodation partner needs to be PCI/DSS Compliant or work with a payment provider. If the property manager themselves is PCI/DSS Compliant - they need to provide their Attestation of Compliance (AOC)

  • In Europe additional requirements of SCA/PSD2 apply. This means that the property manager/payment provider of the property manager should also be able to process the PSD2/SCA (Strong Customer Authorization) tokens.

With this option the traveller will be able to pay with credit cards at the time of booking, however he/she will not be able to pay with alternative payment methods. Property Managers that are not joining HomeToGo payments and choose this option instead, are ruling out travellers who favour booking with alternative payment methods, meaning they are not fishing in the full pool of HomeToGo’s travellers.

Post Reservation Payments via Payment Links

With this process, mostly used if the property manager is not willing/can join payments by HomeToGo, and don’t work with a PCI compliant status / payment processor, one of the only remaining ways to capture traveller payments, to do this offline, post the reservation confirmation has been made. The property manager then has the opportunity to send the traveller via email a payment link.

Although it looks like the easiest approach to set a channel up, the conversion is the lowest and the operational and financial risk is the highest. All in all we see - with traveller payments managed this way.

  • unpaid reservations holding availability

  • revenue in the books of a property manager, that is unpaid for.

  • 30% higher cancellation rates, as guests book without a commitment to pay.

  • no benefit or access to travellers that prefer credit card, and or alternative payment methods.

  • more operational hassle due to non-validated credit cards and or fraudulent transactions
